Through 45 hours of approved coursework, you'll continue developing specialized skills in church administration while gaining greater flexibility to pursue advanced learning through elective courses.

Communication & Technology

Required: 2.5 Hours

Expand your communication and technology skills to better support ministry, leadership, and congregational engagement.

Example topics include:

  • Digital ministry tools

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

Required: 2.5 Hours

Deepen your understanding of the theology, history, mission, and organizational structure of the PC(USA).

Example topics include:

  • Presbyterian history

  • Theolog

  • Mission

  • Agencies

  • Denominational leadership

Ethics, Advocacy & Inclusion

Required: 2.5 Hours

Continue developing the ethical judgment and leadership skills needed to support healthy congregations and professional ministry.

  • Diversity and inclusion

  • Healthy workplace practices ethics

  • Boundaries

Required: 2.5 Hours

Strengthen the leadership and personal resilience needed to sustain a long and healthy career in ministry.

Elective Courses

Required: 27.5 Hours

With fewer required core hours than Level I, Level II offers greater flexibility to pursue coursework that aligns with your ministry responsibilities and professional interests.

Electives may be chosen from any approved APA course category, including:

  • Administration

  • Finance & Facilities Management

  • Communication & Technology

  • Ethics

  • Advocacy & Inclusion

  • Polity

  • Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

  • Self-Care & Personal Development

  • Miscellaneous Electives

Core Courses

Level II continues to strengthen the six core competencies of church administration while providing additional opportunities for specialized learning.

Participants complete 17.5 Core Hours by taking approved courses in the following areas:

Required: 2.5 Hours

Build on your understanding of church operations by exploring more advanced topics in administration, financial stewardship, facilities management, and organizational leadership.

  • Advanced financial management

  • Budget planning

  • Building stewardship

  • Risk management

Polity

Required: 2.5 Hours

Strengthen your understanding of Presbyterian governance and its practical application in the daily life of the church.

Example topics include:

  • Book of Order

  • Church governance

  • Session responsibilities

  • Presbyterian decision-making

 

Polity remains a core requirement throughout every certification level.
